Reaching your next level of athletic, professional, and creative performance is not as difficult as one would think, as a matter of fact when you think about it, it can be simple. By
learning a few techniques to create and guide your thoughts and emotions in a positive way, almost everyone finds they can reach their goals and aspirations in life quickly and easily.
Concentration, focused attention, mindfulness; are words that of been used for generations to help us cultivate the skill of focused imagination for self-actualization and personal and
professional growth. Many brain management techniques such as Hypnosis, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and guided visualization teach us that it all starts with imagination.
Albert Einstein once said;” imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world,
and all there ever will be to know and understand”. So what is imagination? Imagination is defined as the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external
objects not presented to the senses.
In an article featured in Psychology Today, on the science of imagination, James Davies PhD says “imagination is used in a whole variety of cognitive processes including planning,
hypothetical reasoning, picturing things in the past and the future, comprehending language and of course in design and creativity in engineering and the arts”. He also says “that in
perception, one takes information from the outside world, such as light, or sound waves, and finds meaning in it, using memory and perceptual processes. In imagination, it works in
reverse imagery is created from the memory”.
According to Success consciousness.com in its article The Power of Imagination Remez Sasson; states that; “imagination is the ability to form a mental image of something that is not
perceived through the five senses. It is the ability of the mind to build mental sentences, objects or events that do not exist, are not present, or have happened in the past.
Imagination includes the use of all five senses, one can imagine a sound taste or smell, physical sensation, or feeling or emotion”.
Many prominent scientists believe that the subconscious mind doesn't distinguish between a real and an imagined experience, it reacts equally either way. A classic example used to
explain this is the movie theater scenario, almost everyone has been to the movies, where perhaps you’re watching one of those love stories or tear jerker movies, where you get so
deeply absorbed in the movie that you soon find yourself with that emotional lump in the throat, with your eyes tearing up? Or perhaps it’s one of those suspenseful action movies
where the plot thickens and you find yourself becoming more and more anxious about the outcome or safety of the characters and your body reacts as if you were one of the actors.
When working with professional athletes we utilize hypnosis to create imagined experience, together we develop their ability to use focused imagination a kind of mental rehearsal
which actually enhances the athlete’s performance and abilities. Studies show that this mental rehearsal is actually more beneficial then physically practicing actions such as free
throws for a basketball player, or sinking that putt for a golfer. Although these techniques for focusing one’s imagination have been around for thousands of years, they are now
becoming the main stay in achieving one’s cognitive and physical goals and outcomes.
Because the subconscious mind doesn't recognize the difference between real and imagined, and because mental rehearsal or focused imagination has been proven to be even more
effective than physical training, it only makes sense to utilize these tools to achieve the next level of your athletic, professional, and creative performance.
These techniques for focusing your imagination are fairly easy, by imagining experiencing your positive outcome through your various sensatory modalities, the feelings, the sights,
the sounds, smells and tastes, and exaggerating the positive emotions associated with it, we create new neurological connections that the subconscious mind believes is true, which
affects the actions of our physical body.
Hypnosis, Neuro -Linguistic Programming and Creative Visualization give us the tools to focus our imagination in a way that allows us to reach and maintain our goals and aspirations
